Abstract:

What is the reason for a professional portfolio for language teachers?

European and National Frame
The improving of language learning is among the Lisbon 2010 goals.
In order to build up a multilingual Europe the European Union aims at providing:
1. foreign language learning for everybody
2. mother tongue + two other languages
3. foreign language learning from an early age

In order to develop and reinforce professional competences of the European language teachers, the European Union intends to promote the following actions:
1. to relate to a frame of reference for building up a European Profile for Language Teacher Education
2. to build up a common training model
3. to build up European networks of language teachers

The European Parliament made a number of decisions in favour of protection of regional languages and cultures and ethnic minorities.
Both Italy and Friuli Venezia Giulia region made laws aiming at preserving this linguistic and cultural heritage.

Context and Target Group of Project
This project is aimed at teachers of EU languages, also with regard to those less used. Age range of pupils (5 -11) covers both Pre-primary and Primary school levels.

Activities
- to promote confrontation about professional profiles of language teachers of Italy, Austria Slovenia
- to develop plurilingual communication, with the aim of building up a common European citizenship
- to bring into action a plan to set up a co-operation system including visits, workshops and meetings aiming at encouraging the European integration process
- to work out a number of tools for the professional training of language teachers
